Summer’s End
As October skies turn gloomy, the land north of the 49th parallel undergoes its autumn transformation, becoming a canvas of vibrant colours that’s every photographer’s dream. The only downside? All that colour can sometimes obscure the forest for the trees.
Amidst the riot of autumn hues, I spotted a grove of birches with their striking white trunks standing out like beacons. Honestly, you’d have to be blind not to notice these stark white pillars amidst nature’s colourful dance.
The catch? This picturesque scene was right next to a busy Queen’s Highway (now the King’s Highway), making a stop somewhat precarious. But as every photographer knows, capturing that perfect shot sometimes requires a bit of daring.
Alright, I’ll admit, that’s a bit of an exaggeration. If you consider vehicles travelling at 50 kph to be “zooming by,” then so be it. But skipping this scene would have been nothing short of photographic blasphemy, traffic or no traffic. In other words, “nothing ventured, nothing gained.”
