Build It for They Are Coming

On the outskirts of Bowmanville, Ontario, lies the remnants of the WWII prisoner-of-war camp known as Camp 30.

This camp once held senior German officers from Hitler's Wehrmacht. These men were deemed too significant to the German war effort to be held in Europe, so they were sent to Canada.

Today, Camp 30 is a graffiti-sprayed ruin, consisting of various dilapidated buildings in various stages of decay.

Among the ruins, what I found most intriguing wasn’t any of the structures but rather the remnants of a soccer field intended for the prisoners' recreation.

There’s something almost haunting about the stark white goalposts standing in an overgrown and neglected field.
