Deep in the desert on the New Mexico side of its shared border with Texas, I encountered this dead tree alongside what was once the source of water that sustained both the tree and the people who lived there.

Though the inhabitants are long gone, these remnants serve as a poignant reminder of the life that once flourished in this area.
