"Only Fools Rush In"

Along Route 66, just inside Kansas, a supercell is forming. While the locals rushed to seek shelter, with all logic cast aside I stopped to capture the moment.

One of the benefits of following the original Route 66 is that it takes you through some very remote areas. The downside is that many of these places are sparsely populated or even ghost towns, so human contact can be rare.

On this day, I was travelling from Missouri to Kansas on a less-travelled section of Route 66. In the distance, a supercell was developing, and in this region, such storms often precede tornadoes. But what did a traveller from Ontario know about that? All I could see was the dramatic cloud formation—a photographer’s delight.

As the sparse traffic was quickly headed in the opposite direction, I decided it might be wise to follow suit and leave the area as well.
