Patrick Dempsey as John F Kennedy in "JFK RECKLESS YOUTH".

Sometimes, it becomes necessary to fall back on the most primitive form of light: fire.

In the scene depicted in this image, the actors had just finished filming something similar with the one exception being they had the advantage of much more light being available.

I asked for my usual 30 seconds to capture a few stills that the network needed. Everything was going smoothly until the electrical department accidentally cut the power, leaving us with only the candles held by the cast for illumination.

Had digital cameras been around at the time my life would have been considerably easier, as it can handle high ISO levels without significant loss of image quality. But digital photography was still years away, so I had to work with what was available—candles and 35mm transparency film pushed to its acceptable limits.

Fortunately, the cast members were all troopers. They brought their faces close to the candlelight and stayed very still, as my shutter speed was only 1/15th of a second.

Thanks to everyone's cooperation, the result speaks for itself.
