Moons Over Albufeira
Early pre-dawn, with a descending moon over the town of Albufeira, Portugal.
Albufeira is the quintessential postcard town that many tourists envision a Mediterranean town to be: snow-white buildings with red clay roofs and charming cobblestone streets. And yes, that's exactly what you get.
I spent six weeks in this beautiful part of Portugal and visited Albufeira more times than I’d like to admit. Besides its endless photography potential, the town boasts an exceptional array of dining options.
One standout photo opportunity presented itself at the east end of town, overlooking its expansive beach. I envisioned capturing the scene just as the sun began to crest the horizon, illuminating the town's pristine buildings. To borrow a line from Captain Jean-Luc Picard, "Make it so."
What I captured exceeded my expectations. The ocean was perfectly calm, with a gentle white surf rolling in. The beach had just been raked into neat grooves by the town’s groundskeeper using a tractor-pulled platform. And to top it all off, the moon was still fully up, casting a silver glow across the water.
According to the file’s metadata, it was 4:36 AM when I released the shutter. My imagination did the rest.
